"I want it to just be over," Holy Other used to say. The shadowy UK artist was referring to the mystery surrounding his true identity, which he had somehow managed to keep secret under a veil for a while. It hasn't been an easy task, especially once 2011’s “With U” EP was met with resounding acclaim. Last year, he's followed it up with another impressive effort for the Tri Angle imprint, Held, his debut full-length, taking his ability to combine dark, lurching melodies with affecting pitched vocal snippets and hip-hop-flavored percussion from bedroom production to a different, bigger story. “Desire, neediness, vulnerability, fear, pleasure, and confusion are all laid bare. Held is a love album, a modern love album. Not love as aspirational fantasy but lived love, contradictory love - the real love that stifles as much as it soothes.” (Pitchfork). One of the real headliners of our festival this year, Holy Other stands as the best symbol of our wicked times, when stardom often precedes one’s first full length.
